Leadership is one of the most rewarding – and challenging – transitions in the employability profession

As more practitioners progress into their first leadership roles, members and partner organisations have told us that the transition brings new opportunities, responsibilities and challenges. Through the conversations taking place at IEP Connect events across Australia, one message came through consistently: emerging leaders value the opportunity to learn from one another, share experiences and build their confidence alongside peers facing similar challenges.

Building on those conversations, IEP Australia is launching IEP Connect Online: Emerging Leaders – a new, free peer network for IEP Members, including those working within our partner organisations. The initiative extends the spirit of IEP Connect beyond networking events, creating an ongoing space where new and aspiring leaders can connect, exchange ideas and learn from experienced leaders who understand the realities of leading frontline employability teams.

Many of today’s leaders began their careers supporting participants, building employer relationships, and helping people achieve their goals. Yet moving from practitioner to leader often requires an entirely new set of skills. Suddenly, the focus shifts from managing your own workload to supporting others, building team capability, navigating performance conversations, and creating an environment where people can thrive.

While formal training plays an important role, some of the most valuable leadership lessons come from connecting with others who have walked the same path.

The new IEP Connect Online – Emerging Leaders is designed for emerging leaders managing frontline teams in employment services. Through a series of monthly online discussions, participants will explore common leadership challenges, share practical ideas, and learn from experienced leaders who understand the realities of supporting practitioner performance, building team capability, and leading people in a fast-paced environment.
