The IEP’s Employability Essentials workshops are free for IEP Members as part of their membership package and are an opportunity to build on sector knowledge and strengthen day-to-day practice. Each session runs for just 45 minutes over lunchtime, is delivered online, and explores topics drawn from the IEP Award in Employability Essentials program.

Inclusive Employability

Online via Microsoft Teams | 10 April & 29 May | 12:00pm – 12:45pm AEST

Disability inclusion is one of the most important areas of practice for employment service professionals, and this workshop is designed to strengthen your confidence and capability in this space. It extends the learning from the Employability Essentials modules on physical disability, intellectual disabilities, sensory impairment, and reasonable adjustments, bringing these topics to life through practical application.

The session deepens practitioners’ understanding of the legal framework around reasonable workplace adjustments, helps identify the most common barriers facing participants with disability, and introduces the tools and solutions available to address them. Through real-world case studies, you will develop practical strategies for advocating for participants, working with employers to make necessary adjustments, and fostering genuinely inclusive employment opportunities.

The Art of Disclosure

Online via Microsoft Teams | 24 April & 12 June | 12:00pm – 12:45pm AEST

Disclosure of personal information – whether a health condition, disability, or criminal record – is one of the most sensitive decisions a job seeker can face, and how practitioners guide that process matters enormously. This workshop extends the Employability Essentials Disclosure module, going further into the strategies, legal context, and real-world scenarios practitioners encounter every day.

The session covers the legal protections and obligations involved and equips practitioners with strategies for supporting participants to disclose information about mental health, disability, and criminal history with employers. Through case studies, breakout activities, and real-world scenarios, participants will develop practical skills to help people make informed decisions about disclosure, prepare for potential outcomes, and understand the importance of timing, context, and framing in enhancing job prospects while reducing the risk of bias.

Emotional Intelligence in Action

Online via Microsoft Teams | 15 May | 12:00pm – 12:45pm AEST

This workshop empowers employability practitioners to understand and apply Emotional Intelligence (EI) more effectively in their work, extending the Introduction to Emotional Intelligence module in Employability Essentials with practical, interactive learning. The session covers the four core elements of EI – self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, and social skills – and explores how these can be applied to support participants facing complex challenges, improve engagement, manage emotions, and build stronger professional relationships.

Through case studies and interactive activities, practitioners will also have the opportunity to assess and develop their own EI competencies, helping them meet the demands of their role and connect more effectively with both participants and employers.
