For CVGT, learning and development takes a multi-focused approach. Todd Foster, Learning Coordinator at CVGT, says the IEP Australia’s Employability Essentials (EE) program supplies knowledge requirements staff need under CVGT’s capability framework.
“The IEP Employability Essentials program has been a great support for many of our staff, providing great content that other learning does not provide. The history of Employment Services in Australia is a great example. Other modules like Case Management have helped build consultant capability with the tools and hints.”
Participating in the IEP programs has given CVGT consultants additional knowledge about Employment Services and their own roles. CVGT also uses IEP completion as part of its evidence of knowledge and relevant qualifications for the IEA program.
Many consultants agree that completing the EE program gave them a better understanding of some areas of their role, and as a result, they feel more confident when working with participants.
“The IEP are making a mark in the Employment Services industry and CVGT values their partnership,” said Todd. “We have worked closely with the IEP to provide continuous improvement as they evolve and become a brand leader.”
What’s next: Employability Essentials 2.0
The IEP is introducing Employability Essentials 2.0, a significant refresh of the program. The new edition has been redesigned around the realities of employability practice today, and is more practical, interactive and learner-focused. It includes 16 modules across five learning pathways, with a short knowledge quiz after each pathway. The program takes 7–8 hours to complete:
- Employability Foundations: the employability sector and practitioner role, the participant journey, referrals and barriers to employment, and the foundations of person-centred practice.
- Professional Practice & Caseload Management: caseload and contract basics, ethical boundaries and referrals, coaching conversations and action planning, and communication and emotional intelligence.
- Inclusion, Wellbeing & Removing Barriers: practitioner self-management, mental health and wellbeing, neurodiversity, intellectual disability, vision and hearing, and physical disability and employment.
- Employment Outcomes & Employer Readiness: employer relationships, inclusive job matching and an employment outcomes toolkit covering job search, applications, interviews and workplace expectations.
- Cultural Capability & Inclusive Practice: developing cultural capability and applying inclusive practice when working with First Nations people.
The program has also been positioned more broadly. While it remains highly relevant to employment services, it is designed for anyone whose work involves helping people prepare for, move towards, find or sustain employment.
