We sat down with Sayed to find out more. Read the full interview below.
Tell us about your current role and the work you do.
I am currently working with BUSY Ability as an Employment Support Consultant based at the Minto office. In this role, I support participants to overcome barriers to employment through tailored guidance, motivation, and practical support aligned with their individual goals.
Prior to this, I worked with atWork Australia and Serco / Sarina Russo, where I gained extensive experience within the employment services sector. I have also worked with Revenue NSW, which provided valuable exposure to the government sector and strengthened my understanding of compliance, systems, and structured service delivery.
How did you get into working in the employability sector?
I come from a strong customer service and sales background, where building relationships and understanding client needs were central to my work. Around the COVID period, I was given an opportunity to enter the employability sector. I quickly developed a strong interest in this field because of the direct connection with participants and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Supporting someone to gain employment, return to study, or rebuild confidence is highly rewarding and continues to motivate me.
What motivated you to enrol in the IEP Learning program?
I enrolled in the IEP Learning program to continue developing my knowledge of the employability sector and related practice areas. I wanted to strengthen my professional skills and ensure that my work creates a positive and lasting impact for participants.
Can you share examples of how the skills or tools gained from the program have been valuable?
One course I have completed through IEP is Supporting Complex Barriers. This learning has helped me better understand how to work professionally, empathetically, and safely with participants experiencing complex needs. It has strengthened my ability to provide appropriate support, manage sensitive situations, and offer meaningful encouragement.
Has the program helped you learn more about yourself?
Yes, the course and reflective tasks helped me better understand my daily practice. It gave me clarity on how the work I already do aligns with academic frameworks and best‑practice approaches, and how to be more intentional in achieving outcomes.
What would you say to someone considering enrolling in this program?
I would highly recommend the program to anyone working in or entering the employability sector. It provides strong academic knowledge that complements practical experience and helps confirm that you are working in the right direction.
What does being part of the IEP community mean to you?
Being part of the IEP community means ongoing learning, professional growth, and connection with others who are passionate about making a difference in people’s lives.
What does being an employability professional mean to you personally?
To me, being an employability professional means supporting people to recognise their strengths, overcome challenges, and move toward sustainable employment and independence.
What would you say to someone considering a career in employability, and what keeps you passionate?
I would say it is a career where you can genuinely change lives. What keeps me passionate is seeing participants grow in confidence and achieve outcomes they once thought were not possible.
