IEP Learning Academy: Employability Essentials has been designed with new starters in mind, to help them develop the skills they need more quickly, but will also serve as an ideal refresher for practitioners who may not have received a formal sector induction or are looking to improve their overall knowledge to better support participants.
Program Overview
IEP Learning Academy: Employability Essentials offers a unique opportunity for employability practitioners to undertake a series of informative modules that will provide solid sector knowledge and advice on how to practise in the employability sector.
The program consists of 21 themed interactive modules, each with its own knowledge check so all learners, no matter where they work, receive the same learning with their understanding being assessed in a consistent way, ensuring a benchmark for practice.
On completion of the program, learners receive a Certificate of Achievement and digital badge that confirm that the holder has met the basic standards required to operate effectively within the employment support services sector, as recommended by the Institute of Employability Professionals.
Structure and Timings
Employability Essentials is an eLearning program. All learning takes place online through the IEP LMS and the average time taken is 17 hours. Each module is ‘bite-sized’, taking approximately 45 minutes to complete.

The Participant Journey
Supports practitioners to develop a deeper understanding of the participant journey, including key touchpoints, engagement strategies, and approaches that contribute to positive employment outcomes.
Understanding Employment Barriers
Explores the range of personal, social, structural and workplace factors that can impact employment outcomes, and introduces approaches practitioners can use to support individuals in achieving their goals.
Caseload Management
Provides practical strategies for managing a caseload effectively while maintaining quality, consistency and person-centred support.
Supporting People with Sensory Disabilities
Provides an overview of different sensory disabilities and access needs, along with practical guidance to help practitioners support individuals in preparing for, obtaining and maintaining employment.
Supporting People with Intellectual Disability
Explores intellectual disability and the factors that can influence employment participation. Provides practical strategies to help practitioners support individuals to build confidence, develop skills and achieve sustainable employment outcomes.
Supporting People with Physical Disability
Introduces a range of physical disabilities and access considerations, helping practitioners understand how to support individuals to prepare for, obtain and sustain meaningful employment.
Understanding Complex Barriers
Provides an overview of a range of employment-related challenges and support needs, together with guidance on accessing appropriate services, resources and specialist supports.
Reasonable Adjustments in the Workplace
Introduces the concept of reasonable adjustments and explores how accessible and inclusive workplace practices can support successful employment outcomes for people with disability and health conditions.
Understanding Neurodiversity
Explores neurodiversity and the strengths, preferences and support needs that may influence employment experiences. Practitioners will learn inclusive approaches that help neurodivergent individuals thrive at work.
Introduction to Emotional Intelligence
Introduces the principles of emotional intelligence and explores practical ways practitioners can strengthen self-awareness, communication and relationship-building skills in both professional and personal settings.
Developing Coaching Skills
Introduces the foundations of effective coaching, including core coaching principles, communication techniques and practical tools that support individuals to identify goals, build confidence and take action.
Writing Effective Resumes
Provides practical guidance on creating clear, professional and targeted resumes that effectively showcase an individual’s skills, experience and strengths to prospective employers.
Increasing Personal Impact
Explores communication and relationship-building techniques, including principles from Transactional Analysis, to help practitioners strengthen engagement and create more effective interactions.
Employer Engagement
Explores effective employer engagement practices, including relationship building, vacancy development and workforce solutions that create opportunities for both employers and job seekers.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
